This Privacy Policy describes how rssreader (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) handles information when you use our mobile application.
Information We Collect
rssreader is a local-first RSS reader
Your data stays on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to our servers.
RSS Feed Content
When you add an RSS feed URL, the app fetches the feed content directly from the publisher’s server. This network request is made from your device to the feed URL you provided. We do not proxy, cache, or store feed content on any server we control.
Local Storage (Hive)
The following data is stored locally on your device using Hive, a NoSQL local database:
- RSS feed URLs and metadata
- Article content, read status, and starred/bookmarked items
- Notes you attach to articles
- App preferences and settings
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it.
Google Fonts
The app uses the google_fonts package, which may make network requests to Google Fonts servers to download font files. These requests are handled by Google in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy.
In-App Purchases
The app includes optional in-app purchases via Google Play’s billing system. All purchase transactions are handled entirely by Google Play Services. We do not receive or store any payment information. Please refer to Google Play’s Privacy Policy for details on how your payment data is processed.
How We Use Information
Since we collect no personal data, we have nothing to use. The app functions entirely on your device:
- RSS feed fetching: initiated by you when you add or refresh a feed
- Local storage: keeps your reading state, notes, and preferences on-device
- Cached images: article images are cached locally for offline reading
Third-Party Services
The app integrates with the following third-party services:
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| RSS Feed Publishers (user-subscribed URLs) | Fetching article content | The feed URL you provided |
| Google Play Services | In-app purchases | Managed by Google; we receive only purchase confirmation |
| Google Fonts API | Font rendering | Device IP address (standard HTTP request) |
| Cached Network Image | Image caching and display | Image URLs from article content |
Data Security
All data is stored locally on your device. We implement reasonable security measures appropriate to the nature of the data:
- Local database encryption is handled at the OS level
- Network requests to feed URLs use HTTPS when the feed supports it
Your Rights and Choices
- Export your data: The app includes an export feature to back up your feeds and data
- Delete your data: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data
- Control feeds: You can add or remove any RSS feed at any time
Children’s Privacy
The app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes are effective immediately upon posting. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
